Each session starts with a 5 minute warmup. Please show up on time (early is on time).

For this session, please bring in a 60-90 second scene or monologue. Your material should be well prepared, but you will need to come ready to take adjustments and to play. We will simulate an audition experience where you will be directed and expected to change your performance and characterization on the spot. Learning how to take direction well is critical for the actor, whether the in the auditioning space or on set.

The Actor’s Gym is a fun and affordable workshop where you can present a new monologue and get some coaching. Or, perhaps you want to sign up with a friend and work on a scene together. Maybe the scene is something you sourced from FILM/TV (or a stage play), but it could also be a 2-3 page scene that you have written, and now you are ready to work on it – we can help you with performance coaching and script development/feedback.

This opportunity also gives you a shot to work on an upcoming audition (if the timing aligns). You can also practice a short standup routine, or do some singing. Whatever you want to work on is just fine by us.

Everyone will get a chance to perform, and we think that the more time spent in front a crowd (especially a supportive one) while working your craft, will help you build the confidence needed to be a consistent and dynamic performer.

Since most of our courses are 5-6 weeks in length, and our one-day workshops are a bit more expensive, we built the Actor’s Gym to give you a chance to participate, no matter what your budget might be.
