INTRO TO ACTING

TAUGHT BY MEG MCLYNN

Intro to Acting (ages 14+) is the perfect starting point for anyone curious about acting or brand new to the craft. Over one immersive weekend, you’ll explore the fundamentals of on-camera performance in a supportive, hands-on environment.

With a focus on performance basics, camera awareness, and authentic connection, this workshop helps you build a strong foundation and the confidence to continue your training. If it’s not currently on the schedule, check out our 8-week Camera 1 course for a deeper dive.

EMPOWER YOUR VOICE

Empower Your Voice (ages 18+) is a one-day workshop designed to help you unlock the full potential of your voice and discover its deep connection to both body and mind.

Voice training is an essential part of every actor’s craft, and we’re thrilled to have Meg McLynn as your guide. Through practical, hands-on exercises, she’ll help you develop awareness, strength, and flexibility in your voice.

Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned performer, this workshop will give you the tools to express yourself with greater freedom, clarity, and confidence.

CAMERA 1

Camera 1: The Craft, The Audition, The Business (ages 14+) introduces you to the essentials of auditioning for commercials, film, and television while also exploring the business side of the industry and how to build connections in the Pacific Northwest.

Along with audition technique, you’ll learn core tools of the craft so you can approach scripts with confidence, analyze text, and begin building authentic characters. In today’s hybrid casting world—where in-person auditions blend with self-tapes and Zoom callbacks—this course equips you with the skills and foundation to take the next step in your acting journey.

CAMERA 2

Camera 2: Scene Study and Character Development (ages 16+) builds on your foundational training by diving deeper into script analysis, character work, and the art of collaborating with scene partners.

Actors will work on multiple scripts throughout the course, giving them the chance to sharpen their instincts, strengthen their skills, and explore a variety of roles. Through guided coaching and on-camera practice, you’ll learn how to make strong choices, live truthfully in the moment, and create layered, believable performances. This course prepares you for more advanced acting challenges—both in class and on set.

The Self-Tape Academy

🎬The Self-Tape Academy (ages 14+) is built for actors who want to feel confident and in control of their at-home auditions. You’ll learn how to set up an effective self-tape studio, streamline your process, and create professional, compelling auditions that do the work for you — clearly, simply, and truthfully.

The Academy has traditionally been offered online. Beginning in 2026, we’ll rotate between in-studio and Zoom sessions depending on the season, giving actors the flexibility to train in the format that best fits their schedule and needs.

CAMERA 3

Camera 3: Scene Work and Continuity (ages 18+) places you in a realistic, on-set environment where you’ll work with scene partners and adapt to multiple camera setups—including over-the-shoulder, close-up, and wide shots.

From rehearsal through final take, you’ll gain hands-on experience that sharpens your instincts, strengthens continuity of action, deepens your ability to perform truthfully within different framing styles, and builds the confidence to deliver your best work under real filming conditions.

CAMERA 4

Camera 4: The Advanced Acting Lab is an intensive, invite-only class for actors with extensive training at MTAS. Over six weeks, students will push beyond their comfort zones through exercises, bold experimentation, and deep exploration of scene work, emotional connection, and character development.

The lab removes the camera to focus entirely on craft refinement, risk-taking, and growth. Available to working, represented actors who apply or audition.

FIGHTING ON FILM

Ryan Spickard teaches a one day workshop for adult actors who want to learn how to safely fight on film. This workshop is offered a few times each year.

SCRIPT TO SCREEN INTENSIVE

This offering is in development, and will be an invite only workshop for actors who have taken Camera 3.

Casting Director Workshops & Other Industry Guests

Since 2015, we have hosted Paul Weber, CSA, for The Art of the Audition, The Business of the Art – A one day workshop for actors age 16+. The workshop always sells out and the students are always thrilled with what Paul shares in the room.

In 2025, we connected and hosted Allen Hooper, Casting Associate for Modern Family, for multiple comedy workshops. Allen’s approach to comedy and story is brilliant, and his workshop is also one that we recommend.
