Are you ready to write a short film? In this beginning screenwriting class, we'll show you how to take a short story and turn it into one. Weekly classes will be held via Zoom. You can learn from the comfort of your own living room. We will use the popular screenwriting book SAVE THE CAT, various short films/video essays and the animated film ZOOTOPIA as our guides. This 10 week course will show you how screenplays are structured and how visual stories are written. Each week students will be given writing assignments, then they will share in class and receive feedback. By the end of this course, you'll have your very own short film in the works.

    Course Outline:

    • Week One: Introductions, What is a short film?

    • Week Two: Elements of a Great Story

    • Week Three: Workshop - Loglines

    • Week Four: Genres/Types of Movies

    • Week Five: Primal Urge & Beat Sheets - Breaking down a movie

    • Week Six: Shorts vs. Features: How do we use these tools to write a short?

    • Week Seven: Screenplay Structure

    • Week Eight - Week Ten: Further Short Film Development

*Please purchase SAVE THE CAT before the start of class.
