Audition Workshop + Props and Food (optional)

In this month’s workout, we will be focusing on auditioning with props (books, paperwork, files, anything you can engage with, really) and/or food & beverages. You don’t have to work with the item(s) the whole time, of course, but we thought this was an interesting idea to suggest for the gym. If you find material that seems to incorporate props and eating, that’s great start, but you can also add these elements to many scenes without completely disrupting what the scene is really about. Brad Pitt is low key famous for eating while acting, and if you don’t believe me, check out the video below.

If this idea does not interest you, you can always bring in any material of your choosing for practice and feedback, as long it it’s relatively short (under two minutes). And the gym is always a great place for real world audition prep if the timing is right.

If you will be joining us, please plan on bringing a 2-page (max) scene from film/TV, or a 90 second monologue. We will be asking you to send the material to us beforehand, so get those digital documents prepped. If you are working on a monologue, time it and make sure it’s 90 seconds or under. If you are working on a scene, please time it and make sure it is 2 minutes or under.

GENERAL GYM INFO

Each session starts with a 5 minute warmup. Please show up on time (early is on time).

The Actor’s Gym is a fun and affordable workshop where you can present a monologue or scene and get some coaching. Or, perhaps you want to sign up with a friend and work on a scene together. Maybe the scene is something you sourced from FILM/TV (or a stage play), but it could also be a 2 page scene that you have written, and now you are ready to work on it – we can help you with performance coaching and script development/feedback.

All work will be presented in front of the camera, audition style, and the work will be reviewed in class for notes and redirection.

This opportunity also gives you a shot to work on an upcoming audition (if the timing aligns). You can also practice a short standup routine, or do some singing. Whatever you want to work on is just fine by us.

Everyone will get a chance to perform, and we think that the more time spent in front a crowd (especially a supportive one) while working your craft, will help you build the confidence needed to be a consistent and dynamic performer.

Since most of our courses are 5-6 weeks in length, and our one-day workshops are a bit more expensive, we built the Actor’s Gym to give you a chance to participate, no matter what your budget might be.

As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

After the Gym, I had one of the best auditions of my life!
